Expect the unexpected...

Our Family...

I know a lot of you have been waiting to hear an update about Brooklyn. I will post the whole story later with lots of pictures but here is the shortened version. Brooklyn Jean Johnson was born 7 lbs 2 oz, 20 inches long at 2:35am on 8-9-08. Shortly after birth she began to have some breathing problems and they thought she was just having trouble transitioning from being in the womb to being outside the womb (Shae has the official medical term but I only remember TTN). They ran some additional tests and we feel so blessed that the on call pediatrician was guided to start antibiotics as a precaution within the first four hours of her life. It was kind of a whirlwind and then next thing we knew she was taken to a hospital about 40 mintues away. After more tests, tubes and IV's they concluded that she had contracted Group Strep B during delivery. While this can be very harmful, even fatal, she was treated so early her case is mild. She will be in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) until Tuesday, but really only because she needs a ten day course of antibiotics. She has come off oxygen and is feeding well. It has been a long, slow, crazy week for us, but we are doing well and enjoying being with our new baby. We can't wait until she comes home. We are grateful for all of our blessings and especially for your thoughts and prayers. Thanks a bunch. We will keep you posted.

Without further ado, here is Brooklyn...

We can't wait until Brooklyn can come home to her own bed, but for now the nurses are taking great care to make sure she is comfortable and looks cute too!

Aiden is so excited about his new sister. He really wants to hold her, but we will have to wait until she comes home. So for now he enjoys holding her hand, hugging her legs, and counting her toes.

Beth,
I found your blog on Joni's. Your baby is darling and I am so glad that she is on the mend...how scary. I have a niece named Brooklyn and I love that name. I'm glad she will be home soon.

We love her already and she continues to be in our prayers. Should I mention that I have gotten to hold Brooklyn already, or would that be bragging? :)
